Project implementation period: 22.12.2023. – 21.12.2026.
Total project funding 950 000,00 EUR, including the funding allocated to the part of the University of Latvia project 777 694,00 EUR.
Project objective:
To develop, test individualized support system for students' reading, math, scientific literacy and transversal (critical thinking, problem solving, self-regulated learning) skill development in ethnically, linguistically diverse classrooms.
Project summary:
To mitigate the increasing risks of inequality in the Latvian education system, highlighted by international assessments and uneven implementation of education reforms in schools, and to achieve improvements in student performance in fundamental literacies (reading, mathematical, and scientific) and transversive skills (critical thinking & problem-solving; self-directed learning), this project will create and test a support system for interdisciplinary, systematic and successive development of mentioned literacies and skills. The system will include assessment tools and an automated feedback system for personalized learning approaches.
To create the system, new knowledge will be generated:
1. a conceptual framework for literacy development;
2. a description of the support system for reinforcing inclusive education;
3. interdisciplinary, systematic and successive descriptions of the learning trajectories for literacy and skill development.
The system will provide support for teachers in choosing differentiated learning solutions, including didactics, methodology, and interventions; teacher needs-based professional development solutions. The impact of the project will be achieved at all educational levels: students will receive individualized feedback; teachers will feedback on student performance and didactics and methodology for instruction planning; school leaders and policy makers will receive support and recommendations for implementation and operation of the system.
